Why position-aware football stats matter
3 min read · Updated 21 August 2026
Football sites inherited a bias from highlight culture: goals first. That is fine for strikers. It is a poor way to rank the rest of the pitch. A full-back who wins duels and a keeper who faces twenty shots a week can look “average” on a goals board while deciding matches.
Position-aware views fix the question. Instead of “who scored most?”, ask “who performed the job?” Defenders bubble up on tackles and interruptions; keepers on saves and reliability; creators on key passes and assists.
Fans already argue in positional terms — “best CB in the league,” “most creative 8.” TackleZone’s boards are built to match that language so the numbers support the debate instead of derailing it.
When you share a ranking or Compare verdict, say which position lens you used. Context is the product.
