Fernandes's 2025/26 season, read from the numbers
In 2025/26, Mateus Fernandes was close to ever-present for West Ham in the Premier League: 36 appearances and 3024 minutes, averaging 84 minutes per outing. Per 90 minutes that is 1.1 key passes per 90, 0.1 assists per 90 and 4.1 ball recoveries per 90 — the rate profile behind Fernandes's totals.
Fernandes played 1,560 passes — 46.4 per 90, which is the volume that decides whether a side builds through him or around him. Carrying the ball, Fernandes attempted 48 dribbles and completed 58% — 1.4 attempts per 90.
Set against Fernandes's own record, 2025/26 reads differently: he has managed 7 in a season before, so 3 is well short of his own mark; it is also the heaviest workload we have recorded for him, 3024 minutes against a previous high of 2922; his average match rating has risen from 6.94 to 7.20 since 2024/25. Discipline is part of the picture for Fernandes: 7 bookings in 36 appearances, one every 5.1 games.
Our records cover 3 seasons of Fernandes's career, 2024/25 to 2026/27, across 4 clubs — Southampton, Sporting CP, West Ham, Tottenham. In that time he has played 92 matches across 5 competitions, 7,275 minutes in all. His best return was 6 assists in 2024/25, 1 more than he has managed this time.
How these scores are built, and the minutes and rating floors a player must clear to appear on our boards, are set out in our methodology.
