F. Wirtz

Wirtz's 2026/27 season, read from the numbers

In 2026/27, F. Wirtz was used in rotation for Liverpool in the Premier League: 5 appearances and 403 minutes, averaging 81 minutes per outing. The number that flatters him most is match rating — 387th of 978 midfielders and inside the top 40%.

Per 90 minutes that is 2.0 key passes per 90, 0.2 assists per 90 and 1.8 ball recoveries per 90 — the rate profile behind Wirtz's totals. The profile is lopsided rather than complete: measured against midfielders, Wirtz sits in the top 2% for chance creation but only the top 29% for tackling volume.

Set against Wirtz's own record, 2026/27 reads differently: he has managed 11 in a season before, so 4 is well short of his own mark; he is playing far less than he once did — 1275 minutes against 2399 at his peak; his average match rating has risen from 6.81 to 7.30 since 2025/26. Our records cover 8 seasons of Wirtz's career, 2019/20 to 2026/27, across 2 clubs — Bayer Leverkusen, Liverpool. In that time he has played 265 matches across 7 competitions, 19,434 minutes in all.

His best return on our records was 19 assists in 2023/24, from 49 appearances. He is 6 appearances into the current one. Wirtz has 63 appearances in UEFA Europa League and UEFA Champions League on our records, and the gap is real: he is roughly 1.7 times more productive in Europe, 0.28 per 90 domestically against 0.47 in Europe.

Wirtz has reached 8 assists in a season 5 times, between 2021/22 and 2025/26 — a level held rather than found once. Away from his club, Wirtz has 27 appearances for Germany on our records, scoring 7 — across World Cup - Qualification Europe, Euro Championship and UEFA Nations League.

On our positional score Wirtz rates 22 out of 100, 179th of 326 qualified players — inside the top 55%. Relative to what each component is worth, his strongest is goalscoring rate.

How these scores are built, and the minutes and rating floors a player must clear to appear on our boards, are set out in our methodology.
